Airtel and Total partner to ease payment of services

AIRTEL Tanzania in partnership with Total, an international petroleum company, has launched new payment service which will enable customers to purchase Total products and services through Airtel Money.
Dubbed “Airtel Money Tap Tap Card”, the service is linked to Airtel Money wallet of the customers and can be used by the customers for making payments while buying goods and services at Total fuel stations across the country.
Speaking during the launch of the service yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Airtel Money Tap Tap manager Stephen Kimei said the service is the result of extensive research and development work of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology where a customer has just to tap the card on the special Airtel Money Tap Tap commercial POS terminal and enter the secured PIN to make payments.
“We are very eager to partner with Total Tanzania to roll out Tanzania’s first NFC payment service, this will be a great consumer experience for all Airtel and Total customers,” he said.
He said Airtel Money Tap Tap card is an exciting technological innovation from Airtel Tanzania in its continuous pursuit to improve customer satisfaction.
According to Kimei, Airtel intends to make the facility available in excess of 25,000 large, medium and small merchants to accept ‘Tap Tap’ cards hence heading towards the goal of a cashless economy and safety for the citizens from the risk of carrying cash.
He added: “We believe that this partnership with Total will add lot of value and play an important role in improving the lives of people through innovative technologies.”
Kimei noted that the service will be implemented in Dar es Salaam fuel stations first then will be rolled out to all Total service stations countrywide.
Total Tanzania sales and marketing manager, Romee De Villeneuve said motorists are therefore assured of coming across our 30 service stations when in need to purchase fuel or any other Total product and pay through Airtel Money Tap Tap.
“We have seen the need of improving our services by providing easy methods of payment to our customers and we commend Airtel for coming with an easy and safe method for transaction,” he said.
