PM to attend Lutheran Bishop`s ordination

 
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa and government dignitaries are today expected to attend the installation of Bishop Dr Fredrick Onael Shoo as the 5th Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) at the Cathedral in Moshi.

At least more than 5,000 people from within and outside the country including  prominent personalities such as the General Secretary of Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Rev Martin Junge are expected to attend the installation ceremony to be led by the outgoing Bishop Dr Alex Gehaz Malasusa.

Speaking with reporters here yesterday, the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC), Amos Makalla said the prime minister will be among the guests at the installation ceremony.

Commending success by the 19th ELCT Assembly in electing the new Bishop, ELCT Secretary General, Mr. Brighton Killewa urged the Church members to give Bishop Dr Shoo cooperation and seek God’s protection on his outgoing counterpart.

Dr Shoo who is from the Northern Diocese has taken the clerical post from Bishop Dr. Alex Malasusa who had been Presiding Bishop for the Eastern and Coastal Diocese from 2007 to 2015.

Dr Malasusa’s predecessor was Bishop Dr Samson Mushemba who hailed from the North-Western Diocese who acted the position as the Third ELCT Presiding Bishop from 1997 – 2007until the coming of the former. Bishop Dr Stefano R.

Moshi, from the Northern Diocese was the First Presiding Bishop and served from 1963 until 1976 when he passed away.

He was succeeded by Bishop Dr Sebastian Kolowa  from North Eastern Diocese acted in the position until 1978 when he was installed to become the Second Presiding bishop of ELCT until 1992 when he was elevated to the glory.

A procession starting form Umoja Hostel by members of the congregation will precede the Sunday service that begins at 9.00 am.
